SEA-EU international research internships for UG scientists

The Portuguese sun, Atlantic breeze, and unique opportunities for scientific development are just some of the experiences that SEA-EU research internships can offer. As part of the Early Career Researcher programme, researchers who have obtained their PhD within the last seven years have the opportunity to spend several weeks as an intern in one of the research groups at universities belonging to the SEA-EU alliance.

The period after obtaining a PhD is a crucial moment in an academic career - a time for gaining independence, developing one's own research, and building a scientific identity. Early Career Researcher is an opportunity to fully exploit the potential of this stage by developing one's competencies in an international environment.

Early Career Researcher is a programme that subsidises foreign research internships at one of the SEA-EU partner universities. Support is available for trips lasting from 10 to 60 days, to be completed by 31 August 2026. The initiative is aimed at UG employees who are academic teachers and have obtained a doctoral degree within the last 7 years.

Participation in the initiative is not only an opportunity to acquire new skills, but also a chance to broaden one's perspective through work experience in a foreign research group. Cooperation with researchers from SEA-EU universities is an investment in the future - in the development of contacts, projects and academic careers. For six years, the alliance has been supporting various forms of cooperation between employees of nine coastal universities, and its continuation as a strategic project has been ensured regardless of external funding.

Internship offers can be found on the SEA-EU UG website or arranged individually by contacting the research units of other SEA-EU partner universities. A list of SEA-EU units looking for cooperation partners can be found, among others, in the Research Potential and Shared Infrastructure Database.
